About the Doctors

Dr. Kurt King

Dr. Kurt King is one of the Twin Cities' first official children's dentists and the founder of our practice. Locally, he's well known as the former Chief of Children's Dentistry at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and the dental department at Children's Hospitals & Clinics. He is a former member of the Craniofacial Team at Children's Hospitals & Clinics and especially enjoys working with children who have disabilities or special needs. Dr. King is known nationally for his work in children's dentistry and is a fellow of the International College of Dentists. He has served as president of the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Minnesota Society of Dentistry for Children, and the National Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped.  He has undergraduate and dental degrees from Hamline University and the University of Minnesota. Dr. King and his wife, Margo, have four children and eight grandchildren. He enjoys fishing, hunting, tree farming and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dr. David Elgethun

Now that his four children are adults, Dr. David Elgethun enjoys more than ever the opportunity to work with his younger patients. A native of Minnesota, Dr. Elgethun attended Dartmouth College and Harvard School of Dental Medicine and completed his training in pediatric dentistry at Milwaukee Children's Hospital. He has served as president of both the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Minnesota Society of Dentistry for Children. Boating, golfing, fishing and reading occupy much of his free time. Dr. Elgethun's favorite activity, however, is enjoying the company of his wife, Renee, and his children and grandchildren.

Dr. Mark Greenwood

Dr. Mark Greenwood trained in dentistry at the University of Minnesota. After completing a general practice dental residency at Methodist Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, he returned to Minneapolis to complete his training in pediatric dentistry at Children's Hospitals & Clinics. Dr. Greenwood is an approved consultant for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and an Adjunct Professor for Preventive Sciences at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He participates as a member of the University of Minnesota Cleft Palate Clinic and has served as president of both the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Minnesota Society of Dentistry for Children. He enjoys working with patients with special needs and helping all children develop healthy outlooks towards their dental visits. Dr. Greenwood enjoys photography, swing dancing, bicycling and spending time with his four children.

Dr. Sally Schuette

"We don't just work here," says this mother of two, "we really like the kids."  Dr. Sally Schuette received her undergraduate and dental education at the University of Minnesota. She practiced public health dentistry before returning to the University to specialize in pediatric dentistry. There, she completed her master's thesis on dental decay in children undergoing bone marrow transplantation. Dr. Schuette is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, International College of Dentists and National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped, and a past-president of the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.  When not fighting tooth decay in the office, she consults for Children's Hospitals and Clinics and travels annually to provide dental care to HIV-positive children outside the United States, in Romania and most recently, Uganda.  In addition, Dr. Schuette enjoys gardening, cycling, and downhill skiing with her daughters and her husband, Wally.

Dr. Pamela Erickson

Dr. Pamela Erickson received her dental degree from the University of Minnesota, as well as a certificate in pediatric dentistry and a Ph.D in oral biology. She is a former member of the faculty of the University of Minnesota, where she held numerous appointments including Director of Pediatric Dentistry and the prestigious McKnight Professorship. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and is board certified in the specialty of pediatric dentistry. She is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Minnesota Chapter of The International College of Dentists, has served as the president of the Minnesota Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and is also a member of the Minnesota Dental Association and American Dental Association.  Dr. Erickson consults for Children's Hospitals and Clinics and is a member of the Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic.  She enjoys cross stitch, quilting and gardening, but she spends most of her free time with her four sons and husband, Keith.

Dr. Gayathri Sambasivan

Dr. Gayathri Sambasivan received her dental degree from the University of Madras, India. After completing a general dentistry residency and two years in private practice, she moved to Minnesota to specialize in pediatric dentistry. She received a certificate in pediatric dentistry and a master's degree at the University of Minnesota. She then completed a fellowship at Kosair Children's Hospital, University of Kentucky. Following the fellowship, she joined the University of Minnesota as a full-time faculty member in pediatric dentistry. During the five years as a faculty member, she was also the Undergraduate Program Director and a member of the Craniofacial Anomalies Clinic. She was especially involved in the care of children with special needs and medically compromising conditions. She worked with the University's Community Clinic providing care for under-privileged children. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is board certified in the specialty of pediatric dentistry.  She enjoys traveling, music, reading, and spending time with her husband, Sriram, and their two sons.

Dr. Thekla Swanson

Dr. Thekla Swanson graduated from the School of Dentistry and received a certificate in pediatric dentistry and a master's degree at the University of Minnesota. She grew up in Minneapolis and attended Bowdoin College in Maine, where she enjoyed playing on the women's soccer team.  After college, she worked as an emergency medical technician at Minneapolis Children's Hospital.  She continues to serve as a member of their Craniofacial team.  She enjoys working with children and has volunteered at local preschools, taught downhill skiing classes, and served as a mentor to disadvantaged children.  Dr. Swanson worked for several years at an inner-city dental clinic primarily serving underprivileged children.  She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling, skiing, and spending time with her husband, Justin, and their children.

Dr. Lisa Abadeer

Dr. Lisa Abadeer graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and completed her general practice residency at the University of Minnesota as well.  She completed her pediatric dental specialty training at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio.  She is a member of the Craniofacial Team at Children's Hospitals & Clinics and has a special interest in infant oral health.  Dr. Abadeer is a fellow and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and a member of the American Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Association.  Dr. Abadeer enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews, reading, cooking, skiing, and traveling.

Dr. Daniel Fallon

Dr. Daniel Fallon was born and raised in Bemidji, MN, where he enjoyed participating in a variety of sports, particularly hockey.  Following high school, he attended the University of Minnesota Duluth where he studied biology. Dr. Fallon gained early admission to dental school based on his outstanding GPA and early completion of his dental prerequisites. He went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 2009.  Dr. Fallon began his dental career in the public health sector, practicing at Marshfield Clinic in Neillsville, Wisconsin. After working for almost 2 years there, he returned to the University of Minnesota for his residency in pediatric dentistry. While completing specialty training he conducted research on novel caries detection systems involving quantitative light-induced fluorescence.  In his spare time, he enjoys reading, watching movies, kayaking, running, being at the cabin and spending time with his wife, Rachel and their daughter.
